JCHS takes a split (05/02/08)

JCHS boys golf

Adam Gray and Johnathan Fennig recorded all three of the Jay County High School boys golf team's birdies Thursday as it finished second out of three teams.

The Patriots scored a 179 on the front nine at Portland Golf Club, finishing behind Bellmont (170) and a stroke ahead of Bluffton (180). They are now 5-2 in dual and tri meets this year, and 27-17 overall.

Adam Gray was on an even keel, putting together a run of four straight birdies to open his round. The junior birdied the 471-yard, par-5 sixth hole and parred the seventh before finishing with back-to-back bogies for his match medalist score of 2-over-par 37.

Top scorers for Bluffton and Bellmont were Jonas Christina (38) and Luke Ainsworth (39) respectively.

Fennig parred the second and third holes, then bounced back from a difficult fourth on the next pair. He picked up his first birdie of the day on the 414-yard, par-4 fifth hole, and then matched Gray's effort on the sixth as he shot 44.

Justen Moser finished with two pars in his round of 45, and Chase Wellman had two pars as he rounded out the Patriot team score of 53. Isaac Poole shot a 54, and Caleb Fennig totaled a 55.
