MUNCIE - It was a win 34 years in the making.

With three event wins and 14 top-four efforts Saturday, the Jay County High School girls track team won the Muncie Southside Invitational for the first time in school history. The Patriots finished with 126 points, holding off rival Delta (117.6).

Connersville was third at 79.5.

Amanda Johnson led Jay County (14-0) with her victory in the 800-meter run. The 2007 sectional champion and state qualifier in the event posted won by nearly five seconds in 2-minutes, 30.25 seconds.

The senior also finished third in the 400 dash at 1:04.30.

Aly Miller, a freshman, turned in the Patriots' only other individual win in the 3,200 run. She crushed the field, taking the top spot by nearly 20 seconds in 12:28.59.

Johnson and Miller were also in on the other Jay County victory, teaming with Leah Wellman and Katie Butcher for the top spot in the 4x800 relay at 10:31.27.

Wellman had a big day as well, teaming with Johnson for a one-three finish in the 800 run. She was third in the event behind Johnson and Katie Crump (2:35.06) of Yorktown, edging Connersville's Alex Burns at the finish in 2:38.33. She was also the runner-up in the 1,600 run with a time of 5:46.04.

Senior Erika Hunt also had a pair of top-three efforts, finishing as the runner-up in the 100 hurdles at 16.97. She posted a time of 51.54 in the 300 hurdles to finish third.

Third place finishes for JCHS came from Kyle Wellman behind Miller in the 3,200 run in 12:45.84, Cara Garringer in the shot put at 33 feet, 1ΒΌ inches and Lindsey Current in the high jump at 5 feet even. Stephanie Wellman was fourth in the 100 hurdles in 17.91.

The Patriots were also fourth in the other two relay events. Kaelee Keller, Sarah Mescher, Lindsey Shannon and Kayla Clevenger teamed for a time of 55.34 in the 4x100, and Johnson, Keller, Sara Westgerdes and Macey Gerber were fourth in the 4x400 in 4:27.12.
