JCHS tops Eagles
JCHS girls basketball
MUNCIE - Using dominant first-half defense, the Jay County High School girls basketball team closed the regular season on a high note with a 43-23 victory over the host Delta Eagles.
The Patriots gave up just two second-quarter points and led 24-6 at halftime. They allowed just four points in the fourth quarter, improving their defensive average to a Class 4A-best 33.18 points per game.
Senior Pazia Speed scored 13 points to lead JCHS, which is now 16-6. Mariah Hornaday had 11 points and eight rebounds, and Erin Hunt dished out four assists.
Danielle Link and Maria Murphy each grabbed four rebounds for the Patriots, who will host Marion in the opening round of the sectional tournament Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Junior varsity
Jay County had just enough offense as it defeated the Eagles 15-10.
LeAnn Horn totaled six points to lead the Patriots, who shut out Delta in the fourth quarter. They allowed just two points each in the first and fourth quarters, and earned the win despite trailing by one at halftime.
