JCHS tough vs. Tigers (09/26/2008)
JCHS girls soccer
YORKTOWN - The Patriots didn't pick up their second win of the year. They were even held scoreless for the first time in five games.
But it still may have been their best effort of the year.
The Jay County High School girls soccer team limited a recently high-scoring Yorktown Tiger squad to one goal in the first 78 minutes of a 2-0 defeat.
"The girls played possibly their best match of the year tonight," said JCHS coach Ed Wellman. "They are beginning to communicate properly and putting themselves into help positions for their teammates."
Yorktown (7-3-2) had scored a combined 16 goals in its previous two games, defeating Rushville 7-0 and Muncie Southside 9-1. The Patriot defense significantly slowed that scoring run as Mollie May finished with 11 saves.
Brianne Wellman led the Patriots, who picked up their first win Saturday 5-1 over Anderson Highland, with five shots on goal. Kaelee Keller took three shots, and Loryn Horn added one.[[In-content Ad]]
