INDIANAPOLIS - Nearly half of the Jay County High School baseball team's starting lineup was named to the All-Olympic Athletic Conference first team. Now, half of those honorees have been awarded All-State recognition.

Juniors Josh Ludy and Michael Jobe were each selected for All-State honorable mention based on voting by the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association. Also, senior Aaron Bogenshutz earned Academic All-State honorable mention.

Ludy, the Patriot catcher, set a host of team records this year, including a single-season school record 12 home runs that helped JCHS to a new team record of 27. He also set new marks with 44 runs scored and a .681 on-base percentage.

Jobe finished with 12 victories, tying a 31-year-old team record set by Dean Hunt in the first year of the school's existence.

Bogenschutz earned honorable mention after being nominated by JCHS coach Lea Selvey. Students are then rated by their class rank and SAT/ACT test scores with the top 50 overall receiving the award.

Two Patriots will play

NEW CASTLE - A pair of Jay County High School graduates will play in Saturday's East/West All-Star basketball games Saturday at New Castle Fieldhouse.

Scott "Scooter" Bruggeman will represent the Patriots on the Class 3A East boys team, and Sara Garringer will play for the Class 3A East girls.

Bruggeman, a three-year starting point guard for coach Craig Teagle, led JCHS with 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game during his senior season. He was second on the team with 10.5 points per game, and third at 4.5 rebounds per contest.

Garringer missed about half of her senior season because of a knee injury, but scored a team-best 10.9 points per game when she was on the court. She also averaged 2.5 rebounds per game, and finished the year with 22 assists and 11 steals.

Saturday's eight games will begin with the Class 3A girls contest at 10 a.m. and run continuously through the day. The final game - Class 4A boys - is slated to begin at approximately 8:30 p.m. The cost for a full-day pass is $5.
