Jetmore leads Eagle sweep of Montpelier (09/22/06)

MONTPELIER - Annie Jetmore led a sweep as the West Jay girls cross country team defeated Montpelier 15-45 Thursday. The boys lost to Montpelier, 20-41.

Jetmore cruised to victory in the girls race, finishing 21 seconds ahead of teammate Meagan J. Price. Jetmore finished 14-minutes, one second, and Price was second in 14:22.

Liz Lennartz placed third in 14:35, Meagan E. Price was fourth with a time of 14:42 and Macy Gerber took fifth at 14:47.

Chance Fuller had the top time for the West Jay boys, placing third overall in 13:25. Dylan Friddle was fifth at 14:08.

They were followed by Zac Johnson (10th - 16:17), Lee Mock (11th - 17:35) and Kyle Murdock (12th).

The Eagle girls also placed second at the Cowan Invitational Wednesday, scoring 61 points to finish behind champion Frankton (54). The boys team did not have enough runners to post a team score.

Jetmore was again the top runner for the West Jay girls, finishing as the runner-up. Meagan J. Price was 11th ahead of Gerber (15th), Carly Weaver (16th) and Lennartz (17th).

Fuller finished in eighth place for the Eagle boys. Behind him were Friddle (20th), Johnson (24th) and Mock (27th).

Rockets defeat Fort

FORT RECOVERY - Aaron Vagedes had a pair of touchdowns, but Fort Recovery's football teams still fell to the Anna Rockets. The Tribe dropped the seventh grade game 28-14, and lost the eighth grade contest 32-6.

Vagedes scored both touchdowns for the seventh grade team. The first came on a 5-yard run, and the second on a 65-yard pass from Kenny Wenning.

Jason Pottkotter added a two-point conversion run.

Brian Keller picked up the lone TD for the eighth graders on 5-yard run.

East Jay tops Dennis

The East Jay girls cross country team swept Richmond Dennis for a 15-50 win Thursday while the boys eked out a 27-28 victory.

Katie Butcher led the dominance for the Chief girls, finishing first in 12-minutes, 53 seconds. She was just ahead of second-place teammate Leah Wellman, who finished in 12:54.

Katie Simmons took third in 13:21, Laura Bowen was fourth at 13:53 and Deidre Chenoweth placed fifth with a time of 14:26 as East Jay runners took first through ninth places.

Brad Leuthold crossed the line second to lead the East Jay boys with a time of 12:09. He was followed by Garrett Krieg in third in 12:23 and Jacob Heitkamp fourth with a time of 12:36.

Austin Bentz was eighth at 12:49, and Seth Ainsworth placed 10th in 13:28.[[In-content Ad]]
