Two Patriots nearly forced second-set tiebreakers Tuesday. But each of the other three positions saw shutouts.
Jay County High School's boys tennis team dropped every match in straight sets as it lost its eighth straight match 5-0 to the visiting Adams Central Flying Jets.
Tylor Smith played the closest match of the evening for the Patriots at No. 3 singles. After winning two games in the first set he pushed Jon Will in the second before falling 6-2, 7-5.
Brad Leuthold also made a run in the second set at No. 2 singles. However, Kam Fiechter also avoided a tiebreaker to pick up the 6-1, 7-5 win.
The remaining three matches - Jared Valentine at No. 1 singles, Chance Fuller and Joe Imel at No. 1 doubles, and Derek Smith and Morton Garringer at No. 2 doubles - all finished in 6-1, 6-0 losses for Jay County (2-11).
Junior varsity
Adams Central won all three doubles matches and defeated the Patriots 7-1.
Evan Ryder turned in the only JCHS victory at No. 5 singles. he just missed a shutout, defeating Luke Marbach 8-1.
Ryder and Shawn Homan lost 8-4 to Dylan Krueger and Blake Pfieffer at No. 2 doubles, and Seth Ainsworth fell 8-4 against Derek Hanni at No. 2 singles.[[In-content Ad]]
