Jobe breaks record (05/12/08)

JCHS baseball

INDIANAPOLIS - The Patriots lost for just the second time all season at Saturday's Indy Baseball Classic. But in game two they were right back to their normal selves.

Michael Jobe hit another home run, breaking the school record, and the Class 4A No. 5 Jay County High School baseball team salvaged a split with an 11-3 destruction of Fort Wayne Snider. It had a 3-2 lead in the opener before falling 7-3 to host North Central.

Jobe's home run was his 13th of the year, breaking the record set last season by Josh Ludy. He finished 2-for-4 with a double, a run and three RBIs in the victory over Snider.

Billy Wellman also went deep for the Patriots, who have now launched 39 home runs this season. He scored twice and drove in four runs.

Wellman also improved to 4-0 as all three runs against him in six innings were unearned. He gave up four hits and four walks while striking out seven, and Ludy struck out two batters as he tossed a scoreless seventh inning.

Luke Goetz and Trey Dunn aided Jobe and Wellman offensively with two runs apiece. Phil Powell was 2-for-4 with a double.

North Central tagged Jobe for seven runs on seven hits and four walks in 4 1/3 innings in the opener to hand him his first loss of the season.

Thomas McCowan singled, scored once and drove in two runs, and Jobe had a hit and an RBI. Goetz singled and scored a run, and Colton Lombardo added a single as the host team limited JCHS to just four hits.

The Patriots scored twice in the first inning, and North Central tied the scored with two runs in the bottom of the second. Jay County (16-2), which had won eight straight, responded with a run in the top of the third before losing control as it gave up five runs in the fifth.[[In-content Ad]]
