Johnson is Jay's top regional seed (05/22/06)
JCHS girls track
Jay County’s girls track team will have a difficult task trying to extend its season Tuesday.
The Patriots advanced eight athletes in six events, and they will compete at the Lawrence North regional Tuesday at 6 p.m. But their best seeding is sixth — based on sectional results — and only the top three will move on to state level.
Sophomore Amanda Johnson is the top-seeded on the Jay County team, having turned in the sixth-best sectional time in the 800-meter run. Johnson was the Muncie Southside sectional champion in the event at 2-minutes, 26.60 seconds. That left her nearly six seconds slower than the top-three necessary to earn a state berth.
She is the No. 11 seed in the 400 dash.
The next best individual ranking comes from Amanda’s senior sister, Alyssa Johnson. The four-time Southside sectional champion in the 3,200 run is seeded seventh with her time of 12:17.11.
The Johnson sisters and 4x800 relay teammates Jessica Mosier and Allison Fullenkamp are also seeded seventh. They were the sectional runners-up in 10:18.19.
Freshman Lindsey Current is seeded 12th in the high jump, and the 4x400 relay team of Amanda Johnson, Mosier, Erika Hunt and Sarah Mescher is 13th.[[In-content Ad]]
