Johnson wins for 4th-place JC (05/01/06)

JCHS girls track

MUNCIE — Amanda Johnson won one event and anchored the Patriots’ only other victory as the Jay County girls track team finished fourth at the Muncie Southside Invitational Saturday.

The Patriots scored 75 points to place behind sectional rivals Muncie Central (128) and Delta (94), and Olympic Athletic Conference rival Connersville (92) at the eight-team meet.

Johnson, the defending sectional champion in the 1,600-meter run, had the stand-out day for Jay County. She won the battle with Delta’s Jackie Pettiford by just two tenths of a second in the 800 run, finishing in 2-minutes, 29.10 seconds.

The sophomore joined her senior sister, Alyssa, and juniors Jessica Mosier and Allison Fullenkamp to win the 4x800 relay as well. They posted a time of 10:20.30, just one second slower than the school record.

Amanda Johnson was also fourth in the 400 dash in 1:02.80.

Lindsey Current and Alyssa Johnson each added runner-up finishes, and the Patriots had three others in the top three.

Current was second in the high jump, finishing one inch behind Brynn Young of Central at five feet even. Alyssa Johnson, the three-time defending sectional champion in the 3,200 run, placed second in that event in 12:24.17.

Kylie Wellman finished one spot behind Alyssa Johnson in the 3,200 run in 12:41.52, and Mosier was third behind Amanda Johnson and Pettiford in the 800 run with a time of 2:39.41.

Sarah Mescher, Nicole Pfeifer, Janel Chittum and Kristi Morningstar teamed for third in the 4x100 relay in 55.5 seconds.[[In-content Ad]]
