Alex Hunt and Ben Freeman weren’t far behind as they each finished at 40. Adam Foster notched a 45 as Jay County pushed its record to 6-4.

Jay Co. falls short

The Jay County softball team had a win within its grasp on Senior Night Tuesday, but couldn’t hold on in a 13-12 defeat to the Monroe Central Golden Bears.

The Patriots (5-21) trailed 9-5 midway through the contest, but scored four times in the bottom of the fourth and three in the fifth to pull ahead. However, Monroe Central posted deuces in each of the final two innings to hand Jay County its third one-run defeat in the last five games.

Despite their 12th consecutive loss, the Patriots got some serious offense working against the Golden Bears with senior Calah Redwine and junior Stephanie Imel each racking up four hits. Imel scored three times and had an RBI, and Redwine also had three runs scored.

Ashley Cook went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs and four RBIs.

Cook also took the defeat, allowing 13 runs — six earned — on 13 hits. She struck out five and walked seven.

The next game for the Patriots is today at Adams Central at 4:30 p.m.
