JR stumbles in tourney 1st round (07/10/04)

The Jay-Randolph Bulldogs American Legion baseball team got off to a rough start and never recovered as it lost 17-2 to Muncie in the first game of the Muncie tournament Thursday.

Jay-Randolph (3-12) surrendered eight runs in the first inning. It finished the contest allowing 12 hits and 10 walks, and committing five errors.

Starting pitcher Kyle Hunt took the defeat as he lasted just one inning, giving up eight runs — five earned — on six hits.

Tyler Croyle had the most productive offensive day with one hit, one run and one RBI. Jay County graduate Heath Williams scored the only other JR run.

Koufax game postponed

The Portland Junior League Sandy Koufax League championship game was postponed Friday because of lightning. The contest — which had Lykins Roofing leading Portland Moose 3-2 in the third inning when it was delayed — will continue Monday at 7 p.m.

Soccer conditioning

The Jay County High School boys soccer team will begin conditioning for the upcoming season Monday.

Conditioning sessions will be at the high school field from 6:30 to 8 p.m.[[In-content Ad]]
