Kahlig closes season

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — Jared Kahlig’s golf season came to an end Thursday.
The Fort Recovery High School senior closed out his season, shooting an 83 at the regional tournament at Stone Ridge Golf Club.
Lima Central Catholic won the team title by 17 strokes over Van Buren with a 323. Stryker was third with a 325, and St. Joseph was fourth with a 331.
The top four teams and top four individuals from the tournament advance to the state finals. Hickville’s Luis Miron was the final state qualifier from the event as he shot a 79.

Spikers fall short
FORT RECOVERY — The Indians were a game away from their second Midwest Athletic Conference victory, only to fall 25-19, 23-25, 23-25, 25-17, 15-8 Thursday to the New Knoxville Rangers.
Ericka Lennartz racked up 14 kills, 10 digs and seven service points for Fort Recovery, which fell to 4-15 overall and 1-6 in the MAC. Kara Faller had 13 kills and 12 blocks.
Abby Backs came up with 27 digs, Kayla Kahlig totaled 22 assists, Kelsey Fiely finished with 13 service points and Kylie Kahlig had 12 blocks.
FRHS, which picked up its only MAC win in five games over New Bremen, has lost 11 in a row.
Heather Vaughn had nine digs, seven service points and three kills as the Tribe junior varsity team defeated the Rangers 25-8, 25-13. Cassidy Rammel added nine service points and five kills for the Indians (9-4, 3-4 MAC).

Runners place 7th
COLDWATER, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s girls cross country team scored 198 points Thursday to finish seventh out of 19 teams at the Coldwater Lion’s Club Invitational. The boys totaled 427 points to finish 14th out of 20.
The host Cavaliers finished first in both races.
Elle Sutter paced the Tribe girls, turning in her best time of the season to finish 14th in 20 minutes, 25.1 seconds. Jessica Vogel was 32nd in 21:11 ahead of Abby May (43rd – 21:27), Nicole Heitkamp (63rd – 22:07) and Sam Tobe (70th – 22:23).Sophomore Derek S. Sutter finished 54th for the FRHS boys in 18:07. Nathan Fullenkamp was 84th in 18:45 followed by senior Derek J. Sutter (108th – 19:09), Joey Gonzalez (110th – 19:11) and Mitchell Homan (139th – 19:47).


Schroer forges tie
FORT RECOVERY — Kyle Schoer’s late touchdown pulled the Fort Recovery eighth grade football team into a 22-22 tie Thursday with the Anna Rockets.
The seventh graders lost, 24-8.
Schroer scored on a 15-yard run in the fourth quarter and added the two-point conversion run to tie the game for the FRMS eighth graders (3-2-2). He also had a 3-yard TD in the third quarter, and Adam LeFevre scored on a 10-yard fumble return.
Caleb Martin hit Cole Dues with a 65-yard scoring pass for the Indians’ only TD in the seventh grade game. He also tossed a two-point conversion pass to Hunter Vogel as the Tribe fell to 5-2.
Flyers sweep
FORT RECOVERY — The Marion Local Flyers handed the Fort Recovery eighth grade volleyball team a 25-17, 25-9 loss Thursday. The Tribe seventh graders fell 25-13, 25-9.
Kirsten Jutte finished with three assists and two kills for the eighth grade Indians. Julie Wendel had four service points, and Kendra Siefring added three kills.
Devin Post totaled four kills, two service points and an assist to lead the FRMS seventh graders. Emily Hart notched three service points and a dig.
Both teams are 6-9.

Huelskamp leads
COLDWATER, Ohio — Caitlyn Huelskamp’s top-10 finish led the Fort Recovery Middle School girls cross country team to a fourth-place finish at the Coldwater Lion’s Club Invitational.
The Indians scored 141 points to finish fourth out of 14 teams behind Minster (34), Versailles (82) and Fort Loramie (96). The boys team was 17th out of 19 teams with 368 points while Lincolnview won with 124.
Huelskamp placed seventh in 12 minutes, 55.9 seconds to lead the Tribe girls, and Angel Heitkamp finished 15th in 13:15. Cori Stone was 32nd in 13:54 followed by Grace Gehle (33rd – 13:58) and Chassity Hemmelgarn (81st – 15:30).
A.J. Jutte led the FRMS boys with a time of 12:40 for 30th place. Mitchel Kaiser was 69th in 13:20 ahead of Isaac Siegrist (71st – 13:22), Ty Francis (115th – 14:42) and Nick Litmer (133rd – 15:23).[[In-content Ad]]
