Kahlig leads FRHS

MINSTER, Ohio — The Indian and Ranger No. 2 through 4 players were even. It was Elijah Kahlig’s medalist round that made the difference.
Kahlig, who plays in the No. 1 spot, outscored his New Knoxville counterpart by six strokes to lift the Fort Recovery High School boys golf team to a 183-189 victory Monday at Arrowhead Golf Club.
It was a steady round for Kahlig, who put together a run of three pars on the fourth, fifth and sixth holes. He totaled six pars in all, closing his round with back-to-back pars on the par-5 eighth hole and the par-4 ninth as he shot 39.
Tyler Shreve led New Knoxville with a 45.
Chase Bruns had two pars as he followed Kahlig with a 47 for the Indians (5-9). Kent Retz finished with two pars for a 48, and Stewy Alig and Bryce McAbee each added 49s.

Jay splits at HH
FARMLAND — Jay County’s girls golf team posted a score of 233 to finish second in a three-team match Monday at Hickory Hills Golf Club.
The Wapahani Raiders cruised to the victory with a 193, and the Monroe Central Golden Bears were third with a 242.
Alysia Fennig set the pace for the Patriots as she finished with a pair of bogeys and shot 56.
Wapahani’s Hannah Staloy earned medalist honors with a 44. Ashley Stevens posted a 52 to lead Monroe Central.
Maddison Baughn also had two bogeys for Jay County as she finished a stroke behind Fennig. Senior Whitney Gray and freshman Abby Saxman each shot 60.
Katlin Petro had the lone par of the day for the Patriots and finished with a 69.

Sheffer leads FR
FORT RECOVERY — Darien Sheffer tossed three touchdown passes Monday and ran for another score to power the Fort Recovery junior varsity football team to a 53-18 victory over the Union City Indians.
Sheffer threw TD passes of 22 yards to Mike Joash, 25 yards to Jesse Buckley and 27 yards to Grant Hull. He also ran for a 46-yard score in the fourth quarter.
Wes Wenning and Tanner Koch each added TD runs, and Ray Siefring scored on a 45-yard interception return.

Tribe spikers win
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery Middle School volleyball teams picked up season-opening wins Monday over the Union City Indians. The eighth graders rolled to a 25-13, 25-15 victory, and the seventh grade team won 23-25, 25-14, 25-17.
Devin Post powered the Tribe eighth graders with 18 service points, including 16 aces, and three assists. Logan Ranley scored five service points, and Emily Hart had two kills.
Kiah Wendel finished with 18 service points and two kills to lead the FRMS seventh graders. Alexis Bubp had eight service points, and Kelsey Jutte put up two assists.

Jay team wins gold
KOKOMO — Jay County won gold, silver and bronze medals Saturday at the Indiana Special Olympics regional tournament Saturday at Chippendales Golf Course.
Troy Atkinson, Mark Knipp, Kameron Woodbury and Nathan Houser won gold medals, and Kristy Silverman, Jalisa Scott, Ron Smith and Bill Schaffer earned silver. Kurtis Atkinson, Abby Denney, Darrin Martin and Jeremy Kunkler finished with bronze medals.
Roseanne Knipp and Logan Campbell placed fourth at the event, which included 50 teams from eight counties.[[In-content Ad]]
