Kahlig, Wendel carry Indians over St. Johns (01/28/05)

DELPHOS, Ohio — Greg Kahlig and Josh Wendel went wild for the Fort Recovery seventh grade boys basketball team as it topped the Delphos St. Johns Blue Jays 48-44 Thursday. Three eighth graders scored in double figures as the Indians stayed above .500 with a 43-38 win.
Kahlig racked up 21 points and Wendel scored 19 for the seventh graders, who trailed by two at halftime and four heading into the final period. They outscored Delphos 15-7 in the fourth quarter to improve to 9-3.
Cody Fiely and Craig Tobe trailed Kahlig and Wendel with five and four points respectively.
The Indian eighth grade team (7-5) also trailed by two points at the half. But, it tied the game in the third quarter and had its best point production in the fourth with 15 to get the victory.
Toby Metzger paced the Tribe scoring with 16 points. Tyler Jutte added 12 points, and Toby Metzger scored 10.
Chief grapplers roll
PORTLAND — East Jay lost just one match all night Thursday as the Chief wrestlers blasted the Wes-Del Warriors 84-3.
Matt Price (175) and David Jones (135) each finished off their matches in less than a half a minute, scoring pins in 23 and 27 seconds respectively. Zach Somers (85) scored a pin in 42 seconds, and Chandler Stout (80) added another in 46 seconds.
Casey Kenney (95) and Dylan Derrickson (90) spent more time on the mat, but also scored falls in 3-minutes, 43 seconds and 4:16 respectively as East Jay improved to 3-2.
Ricky Davis (80), Kyle Davidson (85), Colin Elliott (90) and A.J. Locker (175) each added junior varsity wins.
Tribe downs Marion Local
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery junior high girls basketball teams dominated the Marion Local Flyers Thursday. The eighth grade team bounced back from its first loss of the season at St. Johns Tuesday for a 27-14 victory, and the seventh grade team improved to 10-2 with a 25-14 triumph.
Anne Koesters scored a team-high 13 points for the Tribe eighth graders (11-1), who shut out Marion Local in the first quarter. They led by just four at the half, but outscored the Flyers 14-2 in the third quarter to take control.
Joanna Snyder trailed Koesters with six points.
The seventh grade team led 11-2 after the first period and was never challenged. It allowed just three first-half points, which included no field goals in the second quarter.
Nicole Pottkotter paced the team with nine points, and Josie Guggenbiller added eight.
EJ splits with Wilson
MUNCIE — East Jay’s eighth grade boys basketball team fought off Muncie Wilson for a 49-45 win.
The seventh graders fell just short, 38-36.
Adam Garringer and Billy Wellman each scored in double figures to pace the eighth graders (8-1), finishing with 13 and 12 points respectively. Kyle Simmons and Dexter Shreve each added five points.
The seventh grade Chiefs (4-5) got 12 points from Austin Emerick. Eric Homan scored eight points, Tyler Freyburger notched seven and Brad Horn had six.[[In-content Ad]]
