Kaup breaks Orange record (09/08/07)

It's official. The best defensive player in Syracuse volleyball history is a Fort Recovery native.
Joscie Kaup, a 2004 FRHS graduate, blew past the career digs record Sept. 1 as she tallied 19 digs in a four-game loss to Akron.
Kaup's team-best total upped her career count to 1,806 digs to surpass the all-time mark of 1,791 set by Rachel Watson in 1999. She also had an assist and two aces in the match, and added 17 digs, one assist and two aces in a 30-25, 30-23, 30-21 victory over Albany on Labor Day to extend her record mark to 1,823.
The senior, who set the single-season Orange record for digs with 685 a year ago, and will have a chance to put quite a bit of distance between the old record and eventual career total.
In addition to leading the Big East in total digs (167) and digs per game (5.76) - no one else has more than 150 total - Kaup is also the Syracuse record holder for digs in a match (40), digs per game in a season (5.31) and digs per game in a career (4.4).
Before breaking the career record Sept. 3, Kaup got herself in position a day earlier with 29 kills in a win over Wright State and 21 in a loss to Mississippi.

Helped the Marian College volleyball team to back-to-back wins after an 0-3 start to the season.
Clark stands second on the team through five matches with 78 assists for the Knights, who defeated Trinity International in four games Sept. 1 and swept Franklin Wednesday. She has an averaged of 5.6 assists per game, and also has one kill
Several other area graduates have seen action recently.
Joseph Vormohr, a 2006 JCHS graduate, made his first career start for the Hanover football team Sept. 1 He manned the center position for Panthers, who lost their season opener 40-24 to Thomas More.
Tiff Gaerke (FRHS - 2007) and Luke McClung (JCHS - 2007) also made their first appearances. Gaerke played for the University of Dayton volleyball team in wins Cincinnati Monday and Aug. 24 over IPFW. McClung saw about 60 minutes of action Sept. 1 in the Anderson University soccer team's 8-0 loss to Capital.[[In-content Ad]]
