Collegiate Check-up
In the opening weekend on the season, Joscie Kaup continued her assault on the Syracuse volleyball record book.
Kaup, a Fort Recovery High School graduate, took over eighth place on the Orange career dig list with 64 in four matches at Wichita State's Best Western Volleyball Classic Aug. 25 and 26. She also extended her advantage as the top player in Syracuse history in digs per game.
The junior's high of the weekend came with 18 digs in the final match, a loss to Wichita State. It lifted her career total to 1,035 as she surpassed Aimee Mask (1,011) for eighth on the career list.
Kaup is likely to push to sixth this week passing 2005 graduates Kristen Conway (1,074) and Kelly Duan (1,091) as Syracuse plays four matches as host of the Big Orange tournament. She is already more than halfway to the top spot, held by 1999 graduate Rachel Watson at 1,791.
She has averaged 4.11 digs per game for her career with the Orange, putting her first on the career list ahead of Watson's 3.83.
Also at Wichita, Kaup had 17 digs against Texas San Antonio, 16 versus Eastern Washington and 13 against Louisiana Tech. She added five aces and three assists for the weekend.[[In-content Ad]]
