A Fort Recovery graduate has already proven to be one of the key players for the Syracuse University volleyball team.
Joscie Kaup, a 2004 FRHS grad, has helped the Orange to a 3-1 start to the season in which the lone loss came to third-ranked Stanford. She is one of just two Syracuse players to have seen action in all of the team’s 16 games thus far.
The sophomore had her best effort of the early season Sept. 10 in the Boston College Tournament. She totaled a team-high 17 digs and matched a career-high with three aces. She also had one assist.
Syracuse also played Stanford in the BC tournament, taking the first game from one of the nation’s best teams before dropping the next three. Kaup had seven digs and one assist in the defeat.
Kaup had 14 digs, three assists and two aces as the Orange defeated Maine in its opening match of the BC tournament Sept. 2.
She added 10 digs — giving her 48 in four matches thus far — and one ace in Tuesday’s victory over Binghamton.
Jill Roughia
The Huntington College freshman and 2005 Jay County graduate helped the Forester women’s cross country team as it finished third at the Goshen Hokem Karem Saturday.
Roughia tied for sixth place with teammate Molly Andrews, finishing in 40-minutes, 50 seconds.
Adam Foster
A 2005 Jay County graduate, he got off to a good start but had a rough back nine as the University of St. Francis men’s golf team placed 12th at the University of Indianapolis Invitational Tuesday.
Foster posted the best score on the Greyhound squad on the front nine at Heartland Crossing Golf Club with a 39.
However, he shot 59 on the back side to finish a 98 total.
Sara Hough
The 2004 Jay County graduate and her Ancilla College volleyball team picked up two more wins last weekend.
Hough paced the Chargers with totals of 27 digs and seven aces in wins over Lake Michigan College and College of DuPage and a tight loss — 30-28, 31-29 — to Kankakee Community College.
The sophomore put up her best numbers in the win over Lake Michigan, notching a team-best of 12 digs. She also matched setter Brittany Lukasik with a team-high of five aces.
Hough added 10 digs in the loss to Kankakee and five against College of DuPage.
Kim Abbott
A 2002 graduate of Jay County, she turned in the No. 5 team score twice as the University of Indianapolis women’s golf team competed in the Ferris State and Grand Valley State invitationals.
She shot rounds of 91 and 96 for a 187 as the Greyhounds placed sixth at Grand Valley State Tuesday. She also had scores of 100 and 91 for a 191 in Friday’s ninth-place effort at Ferris State.[[In-content Ad]]
