Kelso leads WJMS runners (05/01/07)

MONTPELIER - Kylie Kelso racked up a pair of wins for the West Jay Middle School girls track team in a 76-24 victory over Montpelier.
The boys team managed just three total wins in a 69-31 defeat.
Kelso powered the Eagles in the sprints Monday, leading a sweep in the 200-meter dash in front of Macey Gerber and Paige Alsip in 31.09 seconds. She also took the top spot in the 100 dash at 14.59 with Gerber again as the runner-up.
She added another win as part of the 4x100-meter relay, joining Alsip, Gerber and Ashley Franklin for a time of 58.63.
Franklin earned an individual victory with a leap of 4 feet, 2 inches in the high jump, while Brandy Fuller picked up West Jay's other field-event win at 23 feet, 1 inch in the shot put.
Liz Lennartz took the 400 dash in 1-minute, 13 seconds, Melinda Penrod was first in the 800 run at 3:18 and seventh-grader Megan Price took the 1,600 run in 7:11.
Lennartz, Carly Weaver, Melynda Brackman and Mallory Levasseur teamed to take the 4x400 relay in 5:51.
Chance Fuller led a one-two finish for the Eagle boys in the 1,600 run. He finished first in 6:00.68, and Wesley Price was second.
Price earned a tie for first place in the high jump at 4 feet, 6 inches, and Tyler Back took the shot put win at 34 feet, 10 inches.[[In-content Ad]]
