MONTICELLO - Pick a weight class, any weight class.
That seems to be the mantra for Casey Kenney. A 112-pounder so far this season, he moved to 103 Saturday, kept his perfect season in tact and led the Jay County High School wrestling team to a fifth-place finish at the 16-team Twin Lakes Invitational.
The Patriots scored 127.5 points, 13.5 ahead of sixth-place Logansport and 49 behind fourth-place Winamac. South Bend Riley (253) took the title ahead of Peru (245.5) and Delphi (219).
Kenney, who wrestled at 103 in each of his first two seasons, was 20-0 at 112 after Wednesday's victory over Oak Hill. The junior moved back to 103 Saturday, pinning all four of his opponents in the first period to improve to 24-0.
Josh Lochtefeld (119) and Ben Theurer (135) each improved to 19-3 on the year with third-place finishes. Sha White, unseeded at 171 pounds, took fifth place, as did Cameron Pfeifer at 125. Drake Meska (112) was sixth, and Aaron Miller (145) finished eighth.
Chiefs stomp SW
The East Jay Middle School girls basketball teams stayed perfect last week with big wins over the Southern Wells Raiders.
The eighth graders turned in a shutout first half on the way to a 35-17 victory, and the seventh grade team won 26-13. Both teams are now 3-0.
Danielle Jackson scored 11 points for the eighth grade squad, which was up 19-0 at the half. Maria Murphy scored eight points, and Alyssa Rigby and Mariah Hornaday each added six.
The seventh grade team allowed just two points in each of the first two quarters. Gabie Cross scored nine points, and Rachelle Jackson followed with eight.[[In-content Ad]]
