Kenney's debut over in seconds

Local roundup

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Casey Kenney trained for more than a year in preparation for his first mixed martial arts fight. It was over in a matter of seconds.
Kenney, a Portland native, knocked out Lupe Valencia in just eight seconds Friday night to win the Bad Boy Promotions 135-pound title during Bad Boy Fights’ Fight Night at Fort McDowell Casino.
About two seconds after the opening bell, Kenney fired a straight left hand jab that caught Valencia flush on the jaw and sent him stumbling backwards to the mat. Kenney immediately pounced on Valencia, blistering him with a series of punches before the referee stopped the bout just eight seconds in.
The 2009 Jay County High School graduate earned a pair of state medals in wrestling for the Patriots, placing second at 103 pounds as a junior and fourth at 119 pounds as a senior.
