Lehman, Welch score lone victory for Stars (05/03/07)

BERNE - South Adams fell short of its second win of the season Wednesday, dropping a 4-1 decision to the visiting Union City Indians.

Kristi Lehman and Katie Welch scored an impressive win at No. 1 doubles for the Starfires, but nothing else was easy.

Lehman and Welch gave up just a single game against Jenny Sanchez and Michelle Hernandez as they walked off with a 6-1, 6-0 victory.

Lynnette Circle nearly pulled off a victory at No. 3 singles before falling 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-1) to Traci Sullivan.

In other singles matches, Stacey Thorpe lost 6-3, 6-4 to Michelle Binegar at the No. 1 spot, and Kristen Stein was shut out 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 by Jessica Funk.

Tara Beitler and Stefani Stutzman suffered a 6-1, 6-3 defeat against Ali Gelhaus and Adriana Hernadez at No. 2 doubles.

South Adams won all eight junior varsity matches, including an 8-0 victory by Emily Steiner over Maria Reveles at No. 1 singles.

Patriots fall to MC

MUNCIE - Jay County took two matches to three sets, but lost 5-0 to the Muncie Central Bearcats.

In the two matches that went the distance, Jenna Valentine lost 6-2, 4-6, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, and the team of Jessica Muhlenkamp and Tiffani Bickel fell 6-1, 5-7, 6-3 against Emily Collins and Bailey Hall.

At No. 1 singles Carissa Wilkins lost 6-2, 6-3 to Kyle Hall, and at No. 3 singles Megan Adams dropped a 6-0, 6-2 decision to Kathryn Smith. Megan Knittle and Cindy Muhlenkamp fell 6-1, 6-4 to Sarah Hanauer and Eliza Oqasawara at No. 2 doubles.

Central and Jay County split the 16 junior varsity matches. All of the Patriots' wins came in doubles action, including shutouts from from the teams of Briann Saxman and Hannah McAbee, Mariah Clark and Mizuki Saito, and Michelle Landfair and Kayla Martin.[[In-content Ad]]
