Lightning brought an end to the sixth inning, giving the Rockets a reprieve Thursday night.

Geneva’s Cardinals led 4-2 with two outs in the bottom of the sixth when Mother Nature stepped in and suspended play before they could finish their at-bats.

The Cardinals jumped out to a 2-0 lead, getting six hits off starter Mark Flueckiger, a Rocket veteran.

The Rockets responded with 2 runs of their own. One came when Lenny Koesters scored from second base on a passed ball. Cardinal starter Ricky Schnurr struck out 9 Rockets in 5 innings.

Geneva had grabbed the lead in the in the top of the sixth on a two-out two-run single by Erik Hisner.

In the bottom of the sixth, Luke Jones singled to lead off for the Rockets, bringing the tying run to the plate. But Mitch Waters and Brandon Cooley followed with strike outs. Django Whittington was batting for the Rockets when the lightning arrived.

Game officials waited almost an hour before suspending play.

The Rockets play Sunday at 1 p.m. vs. Healthkick of Fort Wayne in a doubleheader. Mike Linder will start game one.

The Cardinals are back in action tonight at home against the Lima Express. Game time is 7:15 p.m.[[In-content Ad]]
