The Patriots didn't get much action in Wednesday afternoon as both the Jay County boys soccer and boys tennis teams were halted early because of lightning.

The boys soccer game at home against the Marion Giants was stopped after just 10 minutes of play, with the Patriots leading 1-0. The Jay County netters trailed in every match against the host Bellmont Braves when play was called off.

With sectional play beginning today in tennis and Thursday, Oct. 5, in boys soccer, neither event will be rescheduled.

The Patriots (6-6) got the only score in the 10-minutes, 34 seconds of soccer when Luke McClung took a corner kick from the right side just five minutes into the game. McClung's kick went to fellow senior Mason Shreve, who gave Jay County the lead at the 34:46 mark.

Marion used excellent ball movement to make several runs at the goal in the next five minutes, but could not even the score.

The game will not count in the official record book. In soccer, a game is not official until at least one half has been played.

The Patriots will play at Liberty Christian Saturday and will host Lakeview Christian Monday before meeting the South Adams Starfires in the Blackford boys soccer sectional Oct. 3 at 7:30 p.m.

Jay County's boys tennis team (11-4) heads to sectional action Friday. It will play the Blackford Bruins in the semifinal round of the Marion sectional at 4:30 p.m.

EJ spikers split

The East Jay Middle School volleyball teams split their matches with the Monroe Central Golden Bears Wednesday.

The Chief seventh graders were victorious by a 25-12, 25-9 score. The eighth grade team lost 25-24, 25-24.

The win for the seventh grade team pushed the squad to 9-2. Abby Denney had nine points, including five aces, for the eighth grade team.[[In-content Ad]]
