Loy, Aker hit career highs

PENDLETON — Alex Loy buried five 3-pointers in the fourth quarter. Katie Aker had three after the intermission.
Both juniors put up career-high scoring totals, but their big second-half effort was not enough to rally Jay County High School’s girls all the way back as they fell 57-47 to the Pendleton Heights Arabians.
The Patriots (6-10) went without a field goal in the first quarter as they fell behind by double figures. They trailed by 29 points before fighting back to close the gap in the fourth quarter.
Loy scored 17 of her career-high 21 points in the final period as she made five 3-pointers and two free throws. Aker tallied 15 of her career-best 17 points in the second half.
Kenzie Gustin scored 20 points to lead the Arabians (12-5).
JCHS lost the junior varsity game 42-22. Lyla Muhlenkamp led the Patriots with 11 points.

JC freshmen win
A shot in the closing seconds lifted the Jay County freshman boys squad to a 28-27 victory Tuesday over the visiting Wapahani Raiders.
The Patriots (9-4) trailed by two at halftime and were still down by one in the final minute. Kyler Carvel then came up big as he hit the game-winning shot on a drive to the basket with 2.5 seconds on the clock.
Carvel scored 10 points to lead Jay County. Adam Dirksen followed with eight points.

Eagle seventh wins 10th
PONETO — The West Jay Middle School seventh grade boys team picked up its 10th win Tuesday as it defeated the host Southern Wells Raiders 35-29. The eighth grade squad also won, 54-51.

Connor Davis totaled 16 points and seven rebounds as the Eagle seventh graders improved to 10-2. Cole Stigleman added eight points.
Dakota Grove led three players in double figures for the WJMS eighth grade team (8-4) with 20 points. Spencer Calvert scored 16 points, and Andrew Trewyn added 10.

Delta defeats EJMS
MUNCIE — East Jay’s eighth grade boys basketball team fell 44-40 Tuesday to the host Delta Eagles. The seventh graders also lost, 39-34.
Ryan Burkett finished with 17 points for the eighth grade Chiefs, who slipped to 10-2. Kyler Hudson added 10 points.
Grant Keihn totaled 15 points for the EJMS seventh graders (4-8). Ethan Myers joined him in double figures with 10.

West Jay girls split
DUNKIRK — The West Jay seventh grade girls squad came up with a 26-24 victory Tuesday over the visiting Southern Wells Raiders. The eighth grade team fell 31-24.
Kimber Harris led the way for the Eagle seventh graders as she scored 13 points. Hanna Ault followed with nine points.
Kyndal Miller scored 12 points as the WJMS eighth grade squad dropped to 4-5. Courtney Cox added eight points.

Sixth grade Chiefs roll
The East Jay sixth grade girls team improved to 3-1 Tuesday as it trampled Muncie Wilson 31-6.
Kendra Muhlenkamp racked up 12 points to lead the Chiefs. Maggie Pryor and Hanna Dillon added four points apiece.[[In-content Ad]]
