Ludy powers Patriots past Adams Central (04/24/07)

JCHS baseball

Five other Patriots had the single Josh Ludy couldn't get. Unfortunately for the Adams Central Jets, that was the only hit missing from his try for the cycle.

Ludy smacked a double, a triple and a home run in leading the Jay County baseball team to an 8-6 victory over the visiting Jets.

The junior powered a 14-hit day for the Patriots (5-1), who scored six runs in the third inning and are now a perfect 5-0 at home.

He drove in three runs and scored twice, and also played an important role on the mound.

Jay County built its lead to 8-2 through six innings, but Adams Central wouldn't go away. The Jets (4-4) scored four times in the seventh to close the gap, but Ludy was able to get the final outs for the save.

Andy Hughes (2-0) earned the win as just one of the four runs against him was earned. He allowed five hits and five walks while striking out nine. Ludy surrendered two unearned runs on one hit as he tossed one inning.

Adding to the offensive barrage were Casey Waters with three hits, including a double, and Tony McCowan with two hits, including a triple. Hughes also had a pair of hits.

Junior varsity

MUNCIE - Jay County stayed perfect as it racked up 13 runs in the fourth and fifth innings in a 16-2, five-inning over the host Delta Eagles.

Colton Lombardo's home run was complimented by eight doubles as the Patriots (5-0) broke the game open after leading 3-2 after three innings. They scored five times in the fourth and eight more in the fifth to end the game early.

Tyler Freyburgher had three of the JCHS doubles and scored three runs, and Lombardo added a double to his homer and also scored three times. Eric Homan finished with three hits and two RBIs, and John Pettus drove in two runs and scored twice.
