Marion Local shuts out Indians

MARIA STEIN, Ohio — The Indians will hope they saved their offense for today.
Fort Recovery High School’s softball team managed just three hits Friday as it fell 6-0 to the host Marion Local Flyers. The Tribe opens tournament play against top-seeded Minster at 1 p.m. today at New Bremen.
Cassidy Rammel took the loss against Marion Local, giving up one run on two hits and three walks in three innings. She struck out two batters.
Beca Tobe allowed five runs in three innings of relief, four of which came in the fourth inning.
Karissa Will, Taylor Guggenbiler and Tobe had the only hits for Fort Recovery, which dropped to 4-18 overall and 0-7 in the Midwest Athletic Conference.

Fort baseball falls
DELPHOS, Ohio — A six-run second inning buried the Fort Recovery baseball team Friday in a 12-2, five-inning loss to the host St. John’s Blue Jays.
St. John’s jumped on top with two runs in the bottom of the first inning, and then broke the game open in the second. The Indians (7-14, 1-6 Midwest Athletic Conference) scored their only runs in the fourth inning.
Ryan Gaerke gave up 11 runs — eight earned — on 10 hits and one walk in 2 2/3 innings to take the loss.
Alex Thien led the Tribe offense, going 1-for-2 with an RBI. Blake Boughman had a hit and a run, Collin O’Dell scored once and Jacob Muhlenkamp drove in a run.

Spartans top Jay JV
The Jay County junior varsity baseball team had the lead before struggling late Friday in an 8-1 loss to the visiting Connersville Spartans.
Connersville claimed the lead with three runs in the top of the fifth inning, and then added five more in the sixth.
Chaz Carroll took the loss as he pitched four-plus innings before giving way to Taylor Fugiett.
Sean Winget finished 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs to pace the Patriot offense. Carroll had two hits, including a double, and an RBI, and Josh Lykins notched one hit, one run and one RBI.

Tribe JV wins
FORT RECOVERY — Four runs in the first inning were key for the Fort Recovery junior varsity baseball team Friday as it knocked off the visiting St. John’s Blue Jays 8-4.
After giving up a run in the top of the first inning, the Indians took the lead for good in the bottom of the frame. St. John’s pulled even in the top of the fourth inning, but the Tribe responded with one run in the bottom of the fourth and three more in the sixth.
Nathan Lochtefeld powered the Indians, going 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and two RBIs. Mike Joash drove in two runs and scored once, and Cole Wendel finished with a pair of runs.
Wendel went he distance for the win, striking out two batters. He gave up four runs — two earned — on seven hits and a walk.
