Marion shuts out Jay County netters (04/12/06)

MARION — The scores were closer, but the result was the same.

Jay County’s girls tennis team suffered its fourth straight shutout Tuesday, falling 5-0 to the Marion Giants.

The Patriots (0-5) were in both doubles matches, but fell short with Megan Knittle and Jessica Muhlenkamp going down by a 6-1, 6-4 score at No. 1 doubles to Alyssa Curfman and Alex Lerter. The No. 2 doubles pair of Tiffani Bickel and Cindy Muhlenkamp lost 6-3, 6-3 to Joanna Lucas and Larissa Barrido.

Carissa Wilkins played the closest of the singles matches, losing at the No. 2 spot 6-2, 6-3 to Amee Patel. Angie Stults fell 6-0, 6-0 to Stephanie Flaig at No. 1 singles, and at No. 3 singles Megan Adams suffered a 6-0, 6-1 defeat to Carling Barrett.

Junior varsity

The Patriots dropped all their singles matches in a 7-1 loss to Marion.

Briann Saxman and Megan Huntsman scored the lone Jay County victory of the night. They topped Brooke Applewhite and Kayla Williams in doubles action, 8-0.[[In-content Ad]]
