Three wins from Jordan McMillan and a pair by Tevan Nichols paced the East Jay track teams as they defeated Bellmont Wednesday.

The girls team dominated, sweeping four events on the way to a 69-31 victory over the Squaws.

The boys team used its depth for a 57-43 win.

McMillan won each of the individual events she competed in, leading a pair of sweeps and another one-two finish.

She dominated the long jump, winning by more than nine inches at 12 feet, 101/2 inches. Ranae Ray was second with Laura Castillo third.

McMillan cleared the high jump bar at four feet, eight inches, with Kelsey Wood one inch behind and Erin Hunt in third. She also edged Wood in the 200-meter dash, winning by just over one second with a time of 29.81 seconds.

Nichols cruised in his pair of long distance races, winning the 800 run by 12 seconds over teammate Branden Brinton in 2-minutes, 33 seconds. His win in the 1,600 run came by nearly 40 seconds in 5:29.

Caitlin Gilbert and Kari Hemmelgarn led the other sweeps for the Chief girls. Gilbert tossed 28 feet, 23/4 inches to take the shot put in front of Jenna Wilson and Jamie Klinger, and Hemmelgarn won the hurdles in 18.08 with Ray second and Wood third.

Laura Castillo finished in first place three seconds ahead of teammate Katie Butcher in the 100 dash in 14.42, and Butcher took the 800 run with a time of 2:40.

The boys team got single wins from Patrick Johnson, Jake Chenoweth and Eric Caldwell.

Johnson was first in the 400 dash in 59 seconds even, and Chenoweth posted a time of 19.07 to take the hurdles.

The pair also teamed with Brad Horn and Preston Roberts to win the 1,600 relay.

Caldwell earned his victory in the 200 dash in 27.62.

The East Jay girls B team got victories from Ray, Laura Bowen, Tasya Smith, Mallory Poole, Hannah Atienzo, Molly May, Amber Thomas and Lindsay Moser in a 76-24 win. The boys B team came out on top 67-33 with first-place finishes from Ben Brandt, Joe Imel, Bryce Roberts, Matt Taylor and Garrett Krieg.

WJ girls edge Cowan

MUNCIE — Kyli Kelso won a pair of events and was second in another as the West Jay girls track team defeated Cowan 53-47 Wednesday.

Kelso led a sweep ahead of Mallory Lavasser and Cidney Bickel in the 400 dash, winning in 1-minute, eight seconds. She went one-two with teammate Macey Gerber in the 200 dash with a winning time of 31.8 seconds.

She was also second in the 100 dash in 14.75.

Haley Knight and Kristin Selvey added a pair of field-event victories. Knight took the discus with a toss of 58 feet, nine inches, and Selvey was first in the high jump at four feet, four inches.

Selvey, Lavasser, Gerber and Anneliese Jetman teamed to take first in the 4x400 relay in 5:10.[[In-content Ad]]
