Miller breaks four records (06/25/08)
Jay County Summer Swim Team
Sam Miller broke a record Tuesday. And then he broke another one, and then another.
Miller's new records in three events along with one from Anne Vormohr led the Jay County Summer Swim team to a 698-456 victory over visiting South Adams.
In the 15-and-older boys 50-meter freestyle, Miller broke his own team and pool records in 25.49 seconds. He bettered his own mark of 25.86 from last season.
Miller also slaughtered his own mark in the 200 individual medley. He finished in 2-minutes, 21.56 seconds, more than two seconds faster than his old record of 2:23.64.
His other record-breaking effort knocked down a standard that stood for nearly 20 years. Miller finished the 100 butterfly in 1:01.85, erasing the mark of 1:02.06 set by Jason Arnold in 1989.
Vormohr's new record came in the 9-10-year-old girls backstroke. She finished in 18.56, knocking off the former pool record held by Katelyn Pratt-Collins of Union City at 18.68.
She was also first in the long freestyle and individual medley, and her cousin Sophie Bader completed the sweep of the division with victories in the butterfly, breaststroke and short freestyle.
Other division sweeps for Jay County came from the 13-14-year-old girls and the 15-and-older girls.
In the 13-14-year-old events Mary Hudson took the butterfly, long freestyle and breaststroke, and Eme Miller was first in the backstroke individual medley and short freestyle. Aly Miller won the 15-and-older long freestyle, backstroke and short freestyle, and Cori Vormohr led the way in the butterfly, individual medley and breaststroke.
Ian James and Alex Bader won the 8-and-younger butterfly, individual medley and short freestyle in the boys and girls divisions respectively. Caitlin Mark was first in the 11-12-year-old girls butterfly, individual medley and breaststroke, and Wiley Young won the 13-14-year-old boys long freestyle, butterfly and individual medley.
Aaron Hudson, Lucas Holcomb, Zane Shreve, Sok Vormohr and Audrey Shreve each won a pair of events. Single wins came from Daniel Ostrowski, Katy Smeltzer and Neal Fennig.[[In-content Ad]]
