The first dual-meet win of the season included some record-setting swims.
The Jay County Summer Swim Team got several records from Sam Miller on the way to a 679-493 victory Monday over the Fort Recovery Eels at Portland Pool.
Miller broke a nearly 20-year-old record in the 15-and-older butterfly with his time of 59.11 seconds. It snapped the team record of 1-minute, 1.31 seconds set by Jason Arnold in 1990, and also bettered Miller's own pool record.
The recent Jay County High School graduate also destroyed his own team and pool marks in the breaststroke by more than four seconds at 1:08.01. The previous mark was 1:12.13.
Jay County dominated two age groups against Fort Recovery, led by Ian James, Noah Hummel, Anne Vormohr and Sophie Bader.
James took the long freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke in the 9-10-year-old boys division, and Noah Hummel won the butterfly, individual medley and short freestyle. For the 11-12-year-old girls it was Vormohr winning the long freestyle, butterfly and breaststroke, and Bader taking the backstroke, individual medley and short freestyle.
Sydney Mathias added victories in the 9-10-year-old girls butterfly, individual medley and breaststroke, and Sok Vormohr won the boys 11-12-year-old backstroke, individual medley and short freestyle.
In the 8-and-younger division Daniel Ostrowski earned victories in the boys butterfly, individual medley and breaststroke, and Eliza Bader took the girls butterfly, backstroke and breaststroke. In the 13-14-year-old group Haley Confer won the girls backstroke, breaststroke and short freestyle, and Zane Shreve picked up victories in the boys butterfly, individual medley and short freestyle.
For Fort Recovery, MacKinely Timmerman, Cori Stone and Perry Hull each won two events. Cassidy Martin, Carley Stone, Marshall Hull and Andy Gray added one victory apiece.
The loss dropped the Eels to 3-2 on the season.
Joining Sam Miller as double-event winners for Jay County were Elizabeth McDowell, Christopher, McDowell, Alex Bader, Cori Vormohr, Eme Miller and Mary Hudson. Adding single victories were Tayler Smeltzer, Conner Daniels, Caitlin Mark, Adam Abbott, Nathan Cain and Lucas Holcomb.[[In-content Ad]]
