A pair of records that stood for the better part of two decades are now gone.
Sam Miller erased the pair of marks Thursday as the Jay County Summer Swim Team stayed undefeated on the year with a 661-525 victory over Wells Community. Jay County won 37 of the 60 individual events and 12 of 20 relays at Portland Pool.
Miller took first in the 15-and-older boys butterfly and individual medley, in which his time of 2-minutes, 23.64 seconds set a new team record by 13 hundredths of a second. He also posted a new record in the breaststroke by nearly three tenths of a second in 1:14.78.
Both records were previously set by Jason Arnold in 1990 and 1988 respectively.
Five triple-event winners joined Miller in leading the team victory, including a pair in the 8-and-younger events. Brandt Pearson took the top spot in the boys long freestyle, butterfly and breaststroke, and Alex Bader was first in the girls butterfly, individual medley and short freestyle.
Sisters Anne Vormohr and Cori Vormohr also won three events apiece. Anne reached the wall first in the 9-10-year-old long freestyle, backstroke and individual medley, and Cori scored victories in the 15-and-older butterfly, individual medley and breaststroke.
Caitlin Mark earned her three victories in the 11-12-year-old girls butterfly, individual medley and breaststroke.
Three 13-14-year-old boys won two events apiece, with Neal Fennig taking the long freestyle and backstroke, Wiley Young finishing first in the butterfly and individual medley and Richard Osterholt earning top honors in the breaststroke and short freestyle. Sophie Bader placed first in the 9-10-year-old girls butterfly and short freestyle, and Noah Hummel won the 8-and-younger boys backstroke and individual medley.
Single wins went to Sydney Mathias, Alex Bullard, Amelia Freeman, Levi Hummel, Adam Young, Radney Pearson, Eme Miller, Mary Hudson, Michelle Landfair and Aaron Hudson.[[In-content Ad]]
