Moore, Liechty lead South Adams

GARRETT — Hannah Moore and Evan Liechty combined to dominate the long-distance races Tuesday as the South Adams High School track teams picked up a pair of wins.
The girls team scored 55 points to edge the host Garrett Railroaders (52) and Adams Central (49). The Starfire boys finished with 69 ahead of Adams Central (58) in second place and Garrett (29) in third.
Moore finished first in the 1,600-meter run in 5 minutes, 56 seconds, and the 3,200 run in 12:41. Liechty posted times of 4:49 and 10:26 to win the boys 1,600 and 3,200 events.
Joel Schmidt also won two events, taking the 110 hurdles in 15.8 and the 300 hurdles in 43 flat. Tim Lehman was first in the 800 run in 2:08.
Twins Leah and Hannah Mitchel combined to win the throwing events, taking the discus at 93 feet, 10 inches, and shot put at 33 feet, 3 1-2 inches, respectively.

FR falls to Parkway
ROCKFORD, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s baseball team had the lead in its first Midwest Athletic Conference game of the season, but one bad inning dropped the Indians to a 6-5 defeat.
The Tribe (4-8) scored single runs in each of the first four innings for a 4-0 lead, but gave up six runs in the fifth. It scored once in the seventh for the final margin.
Kent Retz took the loss for FRHS, giving up five runs — four earned — on two hits and three walks in 1 2-3 innings.
Elijah Kahlig paced the offense with a hit, two walks a run.
Jared Kahlig and Chad Schroer each had a hit and an RBI, Collin O’Dell notched a hit and a run and Blake Boughman scored twice.

Tribe girls third
COLDWATER, Ohio — Kelsey Fiely and Kylie Kahlig earned the lone wins for the Fort Recovery track teams Tuesday at a four-team meet at Coldwater.
The Indian girls scored 34 points to finish third behind Coldwater (134) and New Bremen (64). New Knoxville was fourth with 19.
The FRHS boys totaled 15 points to trail Coldwater (142.5), New Bremen (63) and New Knoxville (33.5).
Fiely took the top spot in the girls high jump, clearing the bar at 4 feet, 6 inches. Kahlig picked up the win in the shot put at 33 feet, 5 3-4 inches.
Marshall Hull had the top effort for the boys, taking second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 23.78 seconds.

SA netters fall
WABASH — The South Adams girls tennis team pushed one match to three sets, but fell 5-0 Tuesday to the host Northfield Norsemen.
Madi Graber rallied after dropping her first set, but fell to Elaina Terrell at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-7, 6-4.
Holly Taylor lost 6-0, 6-0 to Baylis Birk at No. 1 singles, and Madison Kloepper dropped the No. 3 singles match 6-3, 6-0 to Ciara Ritchie.
Faith VonGunten and Megan Hreha lost 6-0, 6-0 to Alyssa Ritcher and Leanne Beck at No. 1 doubles. And in the No. 2 doubles match, Shiana Scott and Erika Miller suffered a 6-3, 6-4 defeat against Morgan Tucker and Kendall Reed.
SAHS lost the junior varsity match 5-2 with the lone wins coming from Paris Mohler and the team of Alleigh Wingler and Treva Clingenpeel.

Indians’ slump continues
FORT RECOVERY — The Houston Wildcats handed the Fort Recovery softball team its ninth straight loss Tuesday by a 6-2 score.
The Indians (2-9) committed six errors in the defeat while matching Houston’s five hits. Beca Tobe struck out seven batters, but took the loss as all six runs against her were unearned.
Taylor Guggenbiller had a double, a run and an RBI in the loss. Jackie Fullenkamp added a double and an RBI.

Panthers top FR
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery junior varsity baseball team slipped to 1-8 Tuesday with a 17-2 loss to the Parkway Panthers.
Nate Lochtefeld took the loss, giving up 12 runs — 10 earned — on 10 hits and three walks in 3 1-3 innings.
Mike Joash went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, and Derek Backs added a single and a run.
On Monday, Ben Will had a double as the Indians fell 11-1 to St. Henry.
