Morgan leads SAHS girls (09/19/2008)

BERNE - Ashton Morgan picked up another hat trick Thursday as the South Adams High School girls soccer team defeated the Fort Wayne South Side Archers 6-1.

Morgan broke a 1-1 tie off a pass from Maddie Moore with just over three mintues left to go in the first half. The same pair connected for another goal just 25 seconds later, and Morgan added a third score from a Kinsey Lengerich corner kick in the second half.

In nine games this season, Morgan, who also had an assist against South Side, has scored 20 times.

Moore hit the opening goal of the game for the Starfires, and scored the first in the second half on a corner kick. Lengerich also had a goal and two assists, and Brianna Nevil added an assist.

Tiger netters top SA

BLUFFTON - The South Adams boys tennis team slipped to 2-10 on the year with a 4-1 loss Thursday to the Bluffton Tigers.

The only victory for the Starfires came at No. 2 doubles, where Daniel Dynes and Jacob Smith fought off Gary Green and Drew Neuenschwander in a tight first set on the way to a 7-5, 6-1 victory.

SAHS dropped second-set tiebreakers in two other matches. Cashe Ingle lost 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) at No. 1 singles, and Kyle Schmidt and Landyn Waugh fell in the No. 1 doubles match 6-2, 7-6.

Kegan Sprunger and Alex Huber lost 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 and 3 singles to Matthew Gerber and Cody Cochran respectively.

South Adams' junior varsity team lost 5-2. Reid Zurcher won 6-1 at No. 4 singles, and Zach Yoder and Ian Frank picked up a 6-5 (8-6) victory at No. 3 doubles.

Star spikers fall

BERNE - South Adams' volleyball team lost its second three-game match of the week, falling 25-18, 25-18, 25-12 to the Heritage Patriots.

The Starfires picked up their first win Sept. 11 over Bluffton. They lost in three games at Leo Tuesday before stumbling against Heritage.

Jacie Yoder finished with 10 digs and 10 assists versus the Patriots.

South Adams also lost the junior varsity match 25-9, 25-16.

Tribe loses pair

FORT RECOVERY - The Fort Recovery Middle School football teams fell short Thursday against Parkway. The seventh graders found their offense in the second half of a 20-14 defeat, and the eighth grade team suffered a 62-0 shutout.

The Indian seventh grade team trailed 8-0 at the half before getting on the board with a 65-yard run by Kyle Timmerman in the third quarter. Alex Wenning added the two-point conversion, and Timmerman scored again on a 19-yard run in the fourth quarter.[[In-content Ad]]
