Morgan's six goals power South Adams (09/17/07)

BERNE - The Starfires did not take kindly to their winning streak being ended. They took out their wrath on Lakewood Park Christian.

South Adams High School's girls soccer team, which saw a seven-game win streak come to an end Thursday, pounded the visiting Panthers 13-1 Saturday.

Ashton Morgan led the destruction for the Starfires (8-2) with enough goals for two hat tricks. She scored five times in the opening half and once in the second while adding three assists for 15 points.

Kinsey Lengerich scored the opening goal of the game off an assist from Emily Steiner - it kicked off a run of seven SAHS goals in a span of less than 11 minutes - and finished with three goals and two assists. Emily Steiner added a goal and two assists, and Maddie Moore also had two assists.

Emily Miller, Mackenzie Moser and Sherri All each added individual tallies in the Starfire victory.

Runners finish 10th

LIGONIER - South Adams' boys cross country team finished near the middle of the pack, taking 10th out of 23 teams at Saturday's West Noble Invitational. It finished with 318 points while Northrop won with 56.

The Starfire girls scored 447 points for 16th place, and the host Chargers won with 84.

Allison Beitler scored the best overall finish for SAHS, placing eighth in the girls race in 19-minutes, 54 seconds. Nathan Rupp led the boys in 17th at 17:01.

Aaron Lehman was the only other Starfire in the top 50 as he took 39th with a time of 17:31. Sam Heckard was 77th in 18:42, followed by Justin Sommer (92nd - 19:00) and Andrew Smith (93rd - 19:01).

Taylor Turner was second for the SAHS girls in 84th with a time of 22:33. Rounding out the team score were Shannon Muselman (99th - 23:12), Anne Lehman (118th - 23:48) and Carson Shane (138th - 24:48).

Gabe Sprunger had the top finish for the South Adams boys junior varsity team in 15th at 18:46.

Boys soccer shut out

BERNE - A five-game winning streak came to an end for the South Adams boys soccer team with a 1-0 loss to the Lakewood Park Christian Panthers.

The game went scoreless in the first half, and remained as such until Lakewood Park Christian's Nick Parish scored on a header off an assist from Carson House with less than 15 minutes remaining.

The Starfires finished with eight shots on goal, half of which came from Adam McLaughlin. Travis Lavy took two shots, and Jesus Tenorio and Tobi Moser each had one.

Goalie Tyler Sprunger had three saves for SAHS, which dropped to 5-3-2 on the season.

Netters 0-3 at Norwell

OSSIAN - The Starfire boys tennis team came up with just one victory in 15 tries Saturday, losing all three of its matches at the Norwell Invitational.

South Adams dropped 5-0 decisions to Bluffton and the host Knights, and fell 4-1 against Bellmont.

The lone victory of the day came at the No. 2 singles spot.

Chase Ingle defeated Bellmont's Dusty Teeple 6-3, 6-2.

The Starfires won just a total of 18 games in the losses to Bluffton and Norwell.

MS girls finish seventh

LIGONIER - South Adams' middle school girls cross country team turned in a good showing Saturday, taking seventh place in a massive 27-team field at the West Noble Invitational. The Starfires scored 216 points while Maple Creek won with 33.

Maple Creek (67) also took the top spot in the 31-team boys competition. South Adams was 13th with 377.

Hannah Moore led the Starfires girls, turning in the team's lone top-15 finish. She was 14th as she crossed the line in 12-minutes, 5 seconds.

Alexis Sparks followed Moore in 29th at 12:24. Kristen Muselman finished 38th in 12:43 along with Allison Amstutz (66th - 13:14) and Jenna Smith (79th - 13:23).

Evan Liechty had the top time for the South Adams boys at 10:55 for 20th place. Joining him were Brody Shane (45th - 11:27), Joel Hawbaker (91st - 12:18), Brett Affolder (110th - 12:27) and Mark Smith (121st - 12:33).[[In-content Ad]]
