Nichols, Dowlen power Mets
Junior League roundup
REDKEY — Parker Nichols and Josh Dowlen combined for more than half of their team’s runs as the Mets won 14-3 Wednesday to the Red Sox in Redkey Junior League Minor baseball.
Nichols and Dowlen each went 4-for-4 with four runs. Izayah Howard was 3-for-3 with a run as the Cardinals topped the Cubs 5-4.
In Major softball, Olivia Cochran was 2-for-2 with a run in Green’s 8-4 win over Red.
On Tuesday, sisters Abbie and Hallie Fields each totaled three hits and three runs in Red’s 11-10 win over Blue in Minor softball. Dacia Curme had three hits and three runs in Green’s 6-4 win over Red.
In Major baseball Tuesday, Cole Stigleman had two hits and three runs in the Pirates’ 9-2 win over the Reds and Holton Hill finished with two hits and a run as the Yankees won 5-4 over the Red Sox.
Claytor leads
Jayden Claytor drove in seven runs Wednesday to lead First Merchants Bank to a 17-4 victory over Jay County REMC in Portland Junior League Rookie softball.
Claytor went 4-for-4 with an inside-the-park home run, seven RBIs and four runs. Makaya Champ added four hits, four runs and three RBIs, and Erika Heitkamp went 4-for-4 with a double and a run.
Renna Schwieterman also had an inside-the-park homer for REMC.
In Rookie baseball, Tarron Bentz went 4-for-4 with a double, four runs and four RBIs as Williams Auto Parts stayed undefeated with a 15-4 victory over Pak-A-Sak. Darius Esparza had four hits, four RBIs and two runs.
