Niekamp's Oilers cap perfect GLIAC season (02/24/07)

As if it wasn't already clear how good Tyler Niekamp's team was, the Oilers just keep on racking up accolades to prove it.
Niekamp, a Fort Recovery graduate, and his Findlay University men's basketball team are now 25-1 and hold the NCAA's No. 3 ranking in Division II. Thursday they set a school-record winning streak with their 24th straight victory, while also becoming the first team to earn a perfect record (17-0) in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference since the league adopted divisional play in 1995.
With their last loss coming way back on November Nov. 17, 85-82 in overtime to the host Texans, in the Tarleton State Tip Off tournament in Stephenville Texas, the Oilers head into tournament competition as one of the teams to beat.
Findlay capped its outstanding regular season with a 76-67 victory at Ashland Thursday with Niekamp contributing a rebound and a block. He finished with three points in an 85-59 trouncing of Gannon Feb. 17.
Jill Roughia
Jay County - 2005
Scored a runner-up finish forthe Huntington University women's track team Feb. 17 at the DePauw Invitational.
Roughia, a sophomore, finished less than three seconds off the winning pace set by Cumberland senior Shelly Schnee.
Her second-place time was 3-minutes, 12.01 seconds, behind Schnee (3:09.46) and well ahead of Reah (3:19.01) Lee of Alabama Huntsville.
Huntington finished seventh in the 13-team field.
Alyssa Johnson
Jay County - 2006
Also competed at the DePauw Invitational, posting a sixth-place finish.
Johnson, a freshman, competed in the mile run for the Taylor University women's track team. She finished just three seconds out of the top five with a time of 5-minutes, 35.54 seconds as her Trojans placed 10th overall.[[In-content Ad]]
