BERNE - One more win will give the South Adams High School girls basketball team its best season since 2002-03. But it wasn't going to happen against the third-ranked team in the state.
The Class 2A No. 3 Garrett Railroaders held the host Starfires to five or fewer points in each of the third three quarters on the way to a 69-20 victory.
Undefeated Garrett (11-0, 4-0 Allen County Athletic Conference) rolled out to a 38-9 lead at halftime, and then outscored the Starfires 19-3 in the third quarter.
Tara Beitler scored nearly half of the points for South Adams (4-7, 1-3 ACAC), finishing with nine. Katrina Hawkins added seven points.
South Adams dropped the junior varsity game 31-12. Lindsye Chandler scored six points, and Jen Miller added five.
Hoop shoot results
DUNKIRK - Competitors from the Delaware Community Schools won every division of the Dunkirk Elks Hoop Shoot competition Saturday.
Kortney Helm, Katie Weaver and Kristina Rhodes won in the girls division. Adam Haynes, Arian Coffey and Drew Jeffers were the boys winners.
Runners-up Kimber Harris, Cheyenne Wentz, Taylor Barker, Konner Rodeffer, Dakota Grove and Case Retter are all from Jay County.[[In-content Ad]]
