No. 3 Garrett slams Stars (12/22/2008)

Local roundup

BERNE - One more win will give the South Adams High School girls basketball team its best season since 2002-03. But it wasn't going to happen against the third-ranked team in the state.

The Class 2A No. 3 Garrett Railroaders held the host Starfires to five or fewer points in each of the third three quarters on the way to a 69-20 victory.

Undefeated Garrett (11-0, 4-0 Allen County Athletic Conference) rolled out to a 38-9 lead at halftime, and then outscored the Starfires 19-3 in the third quarter.

Tara Beitler scored nearly half of the points for South Adams (4-7, 1-3 ACAC), finishing with nine. Katrina Hawkins added seven points.

South Adams dropped the junior varsity game 31-12. Lindsye Chandler scored six points, and Jen Miller added five.
