No. 3 Raiders top Jay County (09/02/05)

SELMA — Jay County has three victories on the season. The third-ranked team in the state wouldn’t let it get a fourth.

The Patriots slipped to 3-8 on the year as they lost 25-15, 25-16, 25-18 to the Class 2A No. 3 Wapahani Raiders Thursday night.

Erica Clark and Shelby Rines each had a pair of aces in the defeat. Rines added a team-best 10 digs to go along with one block and one kill, and Clark added five assists, two blocks, one dig and one kill.

Theresa Reinhart followed Rines with seven digs, and also shared the team high of two kills with Markie Runyon. Jessica Muhlenkamp had a pair of aces.

Stars fall in three

CONVERSE — The South Adams Starfires stayed close in the first game, but still fell to 1-9 as they lost 25-21, 25-4, 25-17 to the Oak Hill Golden Eagles Thursday.

Renee Neuenschwander finished with six kills and three digs in the defeat. Brooke Fox had three kills and three digs, and Andrea Moser added three kills and a pair of blocks.

Alyssa Miller had 13 assists, Maranda Potts picked up four digs and Tamara Moser notched a pair of blocks.

The Starfires also lost the junior varsity match 25-12, 25-9 to Oak Hill.

JC JV falls just short

SELMA — The Patriot junior varsity team nearly climbed back to .500, but came up just a few points short.

Jay County won the opening game against the Wapahani Raiders Thursday night only to fall 19-25, 25-8, 15-12. The Patriots are now 3-5.

Kari Brotherton was one of five Patriots who each had one kill against the Raiders. She also had four digs and a pair of aces. Other kills came from Rachel Powell, Jessica Murdock, Sharon Dirksen and Sara Westgerdes.

Murdock finished with eight digs, Dirksen had five digs and Westgerdes notched a couple of blocks.

Stephanie Wellman added three assists and two blocks.

SA tops Eagle 8th

BERNE — West Jay got a big match from Amber McCowan, but still dropped its eighth-grade volleyball season opener 25-9, 23-25, 15-13 to the South Adams Starfires Thursday.

McCowan had 14 points, including 10 in the game-two win. She finished with 11 aces. Brittney Watson added three points, all in game two, and Brittney Franklin had two points.[[In-content Ad]]
