vFor the second straight meet, the Jay County High School boys swim team won a majority of the events but lost the meet.
Like Thursday at Anderson Highland, the Patriots finished first in seven of 12 events at home Tuesday against Oak Hill. However, the visiting Eagles went one-two in a pair of events and took second, third and fourth in two of the events they lost for a 176-139 victory.
Jay County's girls managed five wins, including a pair from Cori Vormohr, in a 193-122 defeat.
Sam Miller again powered the boys team (1-2) with a record-breaking effort.
The junior, who set the Patriot record in the 200-yard individual medley last week in the season opener against Bluffton, broke the mark again. He finished two hundredths of a second faster than his previous mark to win the event in 2-minutes, 5.66 seconds.
Caleb Dann set the previous record at 2:05.82 in 2002.
Miller also easily won the 100 freestyle, finishing more than five seconds ahead of the field in 50.08.
Aaron Hudson, Tom McCord and Vormohr also finished the evening as double winners.
Hudson and McCord each narrowly missed cracking the one-minute mark in their events as Hudson took the 100 butterfly in 1:00.14 and McCord won the 100 backstroke at 1:00.75. The other win for Hudson came in the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.97, and McCord reached the wall in 23.48 to take the 50 freestyle.
Vormohr, who picked up the girls team's only two wins Thursday at Highland, cruised in both of her events against Oak Hill. She won the 200 individual medley by nearly nine seconds in 2:21.67 and was first in the 100 breaststroke at 1:12.67.
Aly Miller and Vormohr were each part of the two closest races of the night as the JCHS girls (4-2) won the first four events for a 55-50 lead before the Golden Eagles took the next six to build a 60-point advantage.
The team of Miller, Vormohr, Briann Saxman and Michelle Landfair had a solid lead after Vormohr's breaststroke leg of the 200 medley relay. They slipped behind, but Landfair rallied from the slight deficit in the final 25 yards to eke out a win by six hundredths of a second at 2:08.68.
In the next race, the 200 freestyle, Miller found herself in a near three-way dead heat throughout. But again in the final 25 yards she fought off Golden Eagles Ashley Glassburn (2:18.7) and Sarah Browns (2:18.8) to win in 2:18.48.
Jay County also swept the diving victories, including a one-two finish on the girls side.
April Acker took the top slot in girls diving at 183.35 points, and freshman Megan Taylor was the runner-up with 148.25.
Steven Kelly earned a seven-point win in the boys competition as he put up a total of 192.8.[[In-content Ad]]
