Offense leads Chiefs over Starfires

BERNE — The East Jay seventh grade football team defeated host South Adams 33-0 Tuesday, and the Starfire eighth graders downed the Chiefs 21-0.
The East Jay seventh graders rushed for more than 200 yards in the contest, including 115 yards and a touchdown by Daniel Ostrowski. Michael Schlechty rushed for 50 yards and two touchdowns, and Isaac Moeller and Parker Grimes also added scores.
Thomas Hemmelgarn, Dawson Frasher and Ethan Huntsman all had tackles for a loss, and Troy Frazier had two sacks for East Jay.
For the eighth grade Starfires, Joe Stuber took the opening kickoff 94 yards for a touchdown and added another through the air to Terry Dawn in the third quarter. Victor Vasquez had the other score for the Stars.
Stuber rushed for 136 yards on 10 carries and was a perfect 4-of-4 passing for 24 yards. Vasquez rushed for 34 yards, and Brandon Newman had 22 yards.
Grant Shaffer, Newman and Stuber each had nine tackles to lead the Stars, while Bodin Sikes and Isaiah Baumgartner added six apiece.
Dawn picked off two passes while Austin Davidson had one interception.
Stats for the East Jay eighth graders were not available.

Eagle spikers down Bruins
HARTFORD CITY — The West Jay volleyball teams swept the host Blackford Bruins Tuesday, with the eighth graders winning 25-17, 25-19 and the seventh graders topping the Bruins 25-8, 25-12.

Hanna Ault led the eighth grade Eagles with 20 service points, including nine aces. She also added two kills.
Chloe Trissel had four points, all aces, and two kills, and Shelby McClain had three points. Kimber Harris and Kaelyn Weaver each had two points.
For the seventh grade Eagles, Randi Ferguson posted team highs in points (15) and aces (eight). Kendal Garringer recorded 14 points and four aces while Kameron Edwards had four points.
Rhegan Shimp added three kills for West Jay.

Rangers sweep Indians
NEW KNOXVILLE, Ohio — The New Knoxville seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams swept Fort Recovery on Tuesday. The seventh grade Rangers won 25-11, 25-11, and the eighth graders topped the Tribe 25-13, 20-25, 25-17.
Madison Rammel led the seventh grade Indians with six service points, including one ace. She also had a team-high four digs and one assist.
Faith Kahlig had two kills and two assists for the Tribe, while Aleigha Jenkins had three digs and once ace.
For the Tribe eighth graders, Grace Thien had 10 points and seven kills. She also added eight digs.
Madison Grover and Kelsey Jutte each had eight assists, while Jutte added seven points and five aces. Carley Stone had six kills, and Kiah Wendel had a team-high 10 digs to go along with nine assists.[[In-content Ad]]
