JCHS swimming
ANDERSON - The Jay County High School boys swim team won seven out of 12 events Thursday, including 2-of-3 relays. But it was not enough.
The Patriots slipped to 1-1 with a 97-88 loss to the Olympic Athletic Conference rival Anderson Highland Scots. The JCHS girls team got its only two victories from Cori Vormohr in a 117-68 loss, its first of the season.
Tom McCord and Sam Miller led the Jay County boys (1-1) to their 7-5 advantage in event wins, each picking up a pair of individual victories.
McCord, a senior, earned solid victories in both of his individual events, taking the 100-yard freestyle by more than three seconds in 52.04 seconds, and the 200 freestyle by nearly seven seconds in 1-minute, 57.71 seconds.
Miller got a challenge from Highland's Zach Weaton in the 100 butterfly, but earned the victory by just over a half second in 56.53. The junior also took the top spot with his time of 2:08.02 in the 200 individual medley.
Vormohr finished just a fraction off of her own school record in the 100 butterfly, winning by four tenths of a second over Sydney Johnson of the Scots. Her time of 1:02.24 was just eight hundredths of a second slower than the school record she set last season.
The junior dominated the 100 breaststroke, taking first place in 1:12.43.
The meet marked the first loss of the season for the girls team, which fell to 4-1.
Steven Kelly added the only other individual victory for the boys team. He led a one-two finish in diving with a winning score of 186.30, and Donny McCowan was second in 167.35.
McCord and Chance Milligan were each part of both winning relays for the Patriot boys as they joined Miller and Neal Fennig to take the 400 freestyle in 3:38.63. They also teamed with Aaron Hudson and Lance VanSkyock for first place in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:39.98.[[In-content Ad]]
