Patriot doubles pair advances (10/06/04)

Local Roundup

PERU — Randy Evans and Tyler Rigby are keeping the Jay County boys tennis season alive.

Although the Patriot team dropped out with a sectional loss to Blackford last week, Evans and Rigby advanced to the individual sectional at No. 1 doubles. They earned themselves yet another match Tuesday, smacking Jordan Mills and Zach Gray of Northwestern 6-4, 6-1.

As has been the case often this season, the Jay County pair got off to a slow start before rolling over Mills and Gray. The first set was deadlocked at 4-4, and Evans and Rigby then won eight out of the next nine games to take the match.

Evans and Rigby, who are now 16-4 on the season, will play again today at Peru at 4:30 p.m.
