Patriot freshman teams get victories (12/16/03)

The Jay County boys and girls freshman teams each earned victories Monday.

The girls team went to Southern Wells and came home with a 27-13 victory over the Raiders. It is now 6-2 on the year.

The boys team dominated the entire game for a 51-27 win over the Blackford Bruins.

Kaleb Carpenter paced the boys team with 13 points, and Josh Selvey added 10. Jon Wenger finished with eight points, and Ryan Rogers scored seven.

Fort freshmen fall

Fort Recovery’s freshman boys basketball team managed just three third-quarter points as it lost to Sidney-Lehman Monday 38-33.

The Indians (1-2) were led by Kraig Wendel with nine points. Kenton Sudhoff and Matt Tobe each finished with seven.

EJ, FR split pair

The East Jay Chiefs and Fort Recovery Indians junior high boys basketball teams got together Monday and took one victory apiece. East Jay won the seventh grade game 43-24, and Fort Recovery took the eighth grade game 41-34.

The Indians trailed by five points with one quarter to play in the eighth grade game before rallying for the win. They outscored East Jay 15-3 in the final period to pull out the victory.

Lucas Staugler scored 15 points to pace Fort Recovery. Clint Tobe scored nine points, and Bobby Rammel added eight.

East Jay (2-2) was led by Joshua Ludy with 11 points. Clint Muhlenkamp had 10, and Michael Jobe scored seven.

The Chiefs’ seventh grade team led all the way, pulling away early with a 15-2 first quarter advantage. Fort Recovery cut the lead to nine points at halftime, but East Jay bumped it up to 20 after three quarters on the way to the win.

East Jay got 10 points from Lance Franklin as 10 different players got on the scoreboard. Adam Garringer had seven points, and Billy Wellman added six.

The Indians got 10 points from Toby Metzger. Jordan Hess scored five points, and Zac Schoenherr had three.

Chiefs crush Coldwater

East Jay Middle School’s girls basketball teams dominated the Coldwater Cavaliers Monday for a couple of victories. The eighth grade team took a 39-14 win, while the seventh grade team won by an even greater margin of 38-6.

The teams combined for three shutout quarters against Coldwater. Neither squad allowed more than six points in any period.

Abby Loy led the eighth grade team (4-0) with 12 points. Shelby Rines and Dana Horn each added 10.

Kaelee Keller scored 10 points for the seventh grade team. Gina Muhlenkamp followed with nine, and Brittany Mann scored seven.[[In-content Ad]]
