Patriot girls drop pair of shutouts (09/09/2008)

The Jay County girls soccer team has slipped to 0-3-1 with losses in their last two games on the road.
The Patriots fell 3-0 against the Olympic Athletic Conference rival Connersville Spartans Aug. 26, and lost 6-0 Thursday to the Norwell Knights. Their tie this season came in a 2-2 season-opener against Heritage.
Jay County racked up 18 shots on goal against Connersville, but couldn't put any into the net. Senior Kaelee Keller led the way with eight shots, Brianne Wellman had four and Mallory Poole added two.
The Spartans scored twice in the first half and once in the second.
Norwell took command in the first half against the Patriots, scoring four times.
JCHS was limited to three shots, two by Wellman and one by Keller.
Mollie May combined for 37 saves in the pair of games, including 21 against the Spartans.
The next game for Jay County is Thursday when the team returns home to play Mount Vernon at 5:30 p.m.[[In-content Ad]]
