MUNCIE — It was a two-team race Saturday at the Muncie Southside Invitational.
Yorktown won seven events to Jay County’s one, and edged the Patriots’ girls track team to win the meet with 128 points. Jay County was second with 122 points, and Connersville scored 78 points for third.
Tasya Smith earned the only victory for the Patriots, squeaking out a win in the 100-meter dash in 13.4 seconds, one-hundredth of a second faster than Muncie Central’s Whitney Coffman.
Malarie Houck placed third in both the 100 and 300 hurdles. Emi Minnich (3,200 run), Ciera Barcus (high jump) and McKensie Muhlenkamp (discus) all picked up third-place finishes for Jay County.
Houck joined Morgan Brown, Lexi Myers and Britlyn Dues to take second in the 4x400 relay. Abbi Dunlavy, Ericka Kunkler, Kellie Fortkamp and Abigail Johnson teamed up to place second in the 4x800 relay.

Shreve leads JC boys
NEW CASTLE — Zane Shreve won two events to lead the Jay County boys track team 65.75 points and a fifth-place finish Saturday at the New Castle Invitational.
Anderson won the six-team meet with 126.75 points. Connersville was second with 114, and Yorktown scored 82.75 for third.
Shreve had the top spot in both the 110- and 300-meter hurdles to go with his third-place effort in the high jump.

Andrew Eley placed first in discus and third in shot put. Nathan Heitkamp also picked up a third-place finish in the long jump.
J.D. Mangas and Matt Blackford joined Aaron Neal and Shreve to take third in the 4x400 relay, and teamed up with Sean Winget and Heitkamp for third in the 4x100.
Andrew Trewyn (fourth - high jump), Cory Robertson (fifth - discus), Mangas (fifth - long jump) and Winget (fifth - 100m) closed out the scoring for the Patriots.

Ole Miss beats Jay JV
GAS CITY — The Jay County junior varsity softball team had a nine-run lead over heading into the bottom half of the seventh inning Saturday.
They couldn’t hold off the host Mississinewa Indians.
Ole Miss scored 10 runs in the home half of the seventh to rally past Jay County, 17-16.
The Patriots scored one run in the first and blew open the gates with nine in the second to take an early 10-0 lead after two. The Indians rallied, scoring three in the third before both teams added four runs in the sixth. Jay County plated one more run in the top of the seventh before the big inning by the Indians.
Katie Carpenter led the Patriots with three hits, including a triple, and drove in a run. Catera Gierhart and Gracie Runkle each had two doubles, with Gierhart adding two RBIs and Runkle drove in one. Kortney Davis had a single and three RBIs and Sydney Robbins knocked in a pair.[[In-content Ad]]
