Patriot girls slam Union City (12/04/06)

The Union City Indians stayed in the game for a quarter, but no longer.
Lindsey Wellman scored seven of her nine points in the second quarter Saturday in which the Jay County girls basketball team outscored the visiting Indians 17-2. Jay County kept running with its 19-point halftime lead and rolled to a 47-22 victory over the Indians.
Jay County bounced back from its first loss of the season Tuesday at Bluffton to improve to 5-1. After pulling away in the second quarter, it outscored the Indians 10-3 in the third to lead by 26.
Wellman's nine points were a team-high for the Patriots. Seniors Nicole Pfeifer and Whitney Homan each scored seven.
Wellman and Pfeifer also shared the team-high of six rebounds. Pfeifer added five steals, and Wellman had three assists.
Jade Hill was the only player to reach double figures in the game, scoring 10 points for Union City (2-3).
Natasha Anguiano added six points.
Junior varsity
The Patriots dominated from the outset, taking a 23-0 lead after the first quarter on the way to a 47-12 win over Union City.
Sharon Dirksen scored 12 points to lead Jay County, and Pazia Speed added nine. Makenzie Loy and Amber Edmundson each had six points.
