JCHS girls swimming

MONROE - The Jay County High School girls swim team stayed perfect Monday, scoring their second dual meet win over a sectional opponent with a 116-70 triumph over the Adams Central Flying Jets.

Michelle Landfair and Cori Vormohr were each in on four victories for the Patriots, who are perfect at 3-0.

Landfair picked up her first win with a career-best time of 2-minutes, 23.09 seconds in the 200-yard freestyle. She added a first-place finish in the 100 freestyle, continuing to pull closer to the 1-minute mark as she reached the wall in 1:00.95.

Vormohr also turned in a career-best time of 25.63 to win the 50 freestyle, and teammates April Acker (third - 30.73) and Rachel Osterholt (sixth - 32.24) also had careers bests in the event. Her second victory came in the 100 breaststroke as she finished in 1:11.76.

Landfair and Vormohr were also in on both relay victories for Jay County, which won 10 of 12 events. They joined Briann Saxman and Aly Miller to win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:55.05, and Ivy Simons and Maddie Fennig to take first in the 200 medley relay at 2:23.09.

The Patriots faced an opposition in diving for the first time all season, and Acker rose to the challenge. The junior posted a score of 166.85 to pull out the win over the Flying Jets' Clair Lehman (163.7).

Sophomore Caitlin Ruchgy stayed perfect on the year in the 500 freestyle, leading the first of JCHS's pair of one-two finishes. Her winning time was 6:52.66, which was four seconds better than Osterholt in the runner-up spot.

Miller and Simons went one-two in the 100 backstroke, easily outdistancing the rest of the field. They were both four seconds faster than the competition, with Miller winning in 1:16.88 and Simons second at 1:18.35.

Saxman also earned a victory for the Patriots as she took the 100 butterfly by more than five seconds in 1:14.95.[[In-content Ad]]
