Patriot gymnasts defeat New Castle

NEW CASTLE — It’s been a consistent upward trend for the Patriots all season.
Jay County High School’s gymnastics team posted another season-high score Saturday as it defeated the New Castle Trojans 102.675-97.5.
Katie Snyder won three events and the all-around competition (35.7) for the Patriots (5-0), who have improved their score at every meet this year. She won the floor exercise and vault with matching scores of 9.2, was first on the balance beam with an 8.85 and placed second on the uneven bars with an 8.45.
Tasya Smith took the runner-up spot on the balance beam with an 8.4, and Malarie Houck completed a sweep on the event with an 8.2 for third place. Smith was also third on the vault (8.7), bars (8.325) and floor (8.625).

EJMS wins tourney
Both East Jay Middle School girls basketball teams won championships Saturday at Jay Community Center’s Boomer Basketball Tournament.

Taylor Homan powered the eighth grade Chiefs as she scored 15 points in their 42-37 semifinal win over Connersville and added 13 in their 29-9 championship victory over West Jay. Britlyn Dues scored eight points in the semifinal game.
Katie Beougher tallied 13 points to lead the EJMS seventh grade squad to its 29-14 win over West Jay in the championship game. Taylor Muhlenkamp had 11 points as the Chiefs beat Connersville 33-14 in the semifinal round.

Eagle 8th falls just short
West Jay’s eighth grade boys basketball team narrowly missed winning the title in the Boomer Basketball Tournament, falling 34-33 to East Jay in the title game. It topped Richmond Test 35-27 in the semifinal round.
The seventh grade Eagles lost their opener 33-31 to Richmond Test before beating Richmond Dennis 41-31 in the consolation game.
Andrew Trewyn led the West Jay eighth graders with 23 points on the day, scoring 14 of those in the semifinal victory. Justin Crouch added eight in the championship game.
Connor Davis scored 13 points in the victory over Richmond Dennis for the seventh graders, and he also had 10 in the opening round. Cole Stigleman tallied eight points in each game.
