Patriot netters end skid (04/15/08)

JCHS girls tennis

WINCHESTER - In their previous two matches, the doubles teams took turns picking up the Patriots' lone points. Monday night, they led a sweep.

Jay County High School's girls tennis team gave up just a single game in doubles action as it halted a three-match losing streak with a 5-0 victory over the Winchester Golden Falcons.

Megan Huntsman and Briann Saxman teamed to turn in a shutout at No. 2 doubles for the Patriots (2-3), blanking Olivia Baldwin and Gracie Rossen 6-0, 6-0. Tiffani Bickel and Cindy Muhlenkamp were nearly perfect at No. 1 doubles with their 6-0, 6-1 win over Kelsay Hart and Shantel Short.

Betsy Knittle was also dominant in her win at No. 3 singles, defeating Andrea Fodrea 6-1, 6-1. At No. 2 doubles Hannah McAbee topped Ariel Detrick 6-4, 6-4 and in the No. 1 doubles match Megan Adams won a tight third set to beat Grace Wallace 6-3, 1-6, 7-5.

Junior varsity

Kellie Howell turned in a shutout victory to lead the Patriots to an 8-2 win over Winchester.

Howell blasted Kristin West 8-0 at No. 3 singles. Other singles wins came from Kayla Martin, Mizuki Saito and Megan McGraw.

The doubles team of Chealsea Kimmel and Melanie White earned a victory, as did Ashley Caupp and Katie Link.[[In-content Ad]]
